Taxes

Taxes are due each year on May 10th and November 10th. Property tax statements are mailed out no later than the first week of April. Everything property owners need to know is on this tax statement on either the tax stub or the TS-1 comparison statement that is with the stub.

Note to Taxpayers with Taxes Escrowed through Mortgage Company:

Taxpayers who have their taxes escrowed through their mortgage company will also receive a tax bill statement. It will say “In Escrow” or  “Informational”  This means you do not pay your taxes because your mortgage company is paying it. Fountain County is required to send notice to the taxpayer.

Transfer fees are as follows: $10.00 per parcel, per document

Exclusions include: Transfer on Death Deeds and State of Indiana

Per an update to IC6-1.1-5.5-4, the Sales Disclosure Fee has increased from $10.00 to $20.00, effective July 1, 2021.

Listed below are the Tax Exemption Forms. The deadline to file exemption forms is December 31st of each year.

Mobile Home Moving & Transfer of Title

The State of Indiana has regulations on the moving and transfer of title of mobile homes.

  1. A mobile home may not be moved from one location to another unless the owner obtains a permit to move the mobile home from the county treasurer.
  2. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles may not transfer the title to a mobile home unless the owner obtains a permit to transfer the title from the county treasurer.
  3. A county treasurer shall issue a permit which is required to either move, or transfer the title to a mobile home if the taxes due on the mobile home have been paid. The permit shall state the date it is issued.
  4. A mobile home cannot be moved more than one month after the date of issuance of this permit.
  5. A mobile home owner who sells the mobile home to another shall provide the purchaser with t he permit required before the sale is consummated. A person who violates this commits a Class C infraction.
  6. A mobile home own must present a copy of this permit to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles when applying for title transfer. If the mobile home is to be moved, a separate permit must be requested prior to moving.

Complete the Mobile Home Permit Application Form for moving or transfer of title and submit to the Fountain County Treasurer's office.

Alcohol & Tobacco Property Tax Clearance Sale

A blank Property Tax Clearance Schedule - Form 1 can be found at the Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission site.

While we do not charge a fee for signing and sealing the alcohol permit, we do require all taxes to be current. Please contact the Treasurer's Office for more information.

Welcome to the Fountain County Office of Voter Registration website. Here are some suggestions to make it as easy as possible for you to participate in the election process:

Requirements to Vote

  •     You are a Citizen of the United States;
  •     You will be 18 years of age by the time of the next general election;
  •     You will have been a resident of your precinct for 30 days before the election  
  •     You are not currently in prison after being convicted of a crime.

As of July 1st, 2001, anyone wishing to vote MUST give their 10 digit Indiana Driver's License number or a state issued ID number. If you do not have an Indiana Driver's License, you may give the last four digits of your social security number.

April 14, 2023 DEADLINE, by noon, for filing pre-primary campaign finance reports for primary candidates (including unopposed candidates) 
April 20, 2023 DEADLINE, by 11:59 pm, for Clerk to receive an absentee ballot application from applicant requesting delivery by mail
May 1, 2023 DEADLINE, by noon, for confined voters or anyone caring for a confined person to request delivery of a ballot by the absentee travel board.
